HCAI System Release 3.20: Form 1 Mandatory in HCAI / May 23, 2018

As previously stated in our Year Ahead document and HCAI Update for our Spring release, FSCO has confirmed that starting October 1, 2018, all health care facilities must submit the Form 1 to insurers electronically through HCAI, using either a practice management system (PMS) that is integrated with HCAI or the HCAI web channel.

Please note that:

  • The Form 1 was introduced to HCAI on a voluntary basis as a pilot program in 2016.
  • Form 1 may only be completed by an Occupational Therapist or Registered Nurse.
  • It is used to report the need for attendant care as the result of an automobile accident.
  • Invoices for attendant care services will continue to be submitted and processed outside of the HCAI system.

PMS Vendors can use the “Submit Document”, “Document Submission Extract” and “Get Adjuster Response” functionalities of the PMS channel to implement Form 1 in their software.

This will be the final opportunity for PMS vendors to implement and have Form 1 tested on the HCAI test environment before the submission of Form 1 becomes mandatory starting October 1, 2018.

For detailed information about how you can submit and retrieve Form 1 documents’ data via the PMS channel, please refer to the PMS vendor package.

There are no changes to the HCAI PMS toolkit in HCAI Release 3.20. After the release goes live, vendors can continue using the existing version of the vendor package. As always, we strongly recommend regression testing your systems to ensure a smooth transition when HCAI Release 3.20 goes live to production on Monday, October 1, 2018.

The official testing period for HCAI Release 3.20 will begin Monday, July 23, 2018, and end Friday, August 24, 2018. The test environment details will be shared closer to the start of the official testing period.
